MORE ABOUT ME

Tara is a well-loved yoga instructor with 21 years of personal yoga practice and an impressive 17-year teaching tenure. Her expertise extends globally where she leads service-oriented yoga workshops and retreats. In 2011, she founded the Yatra Yoga Teacher Training, a comprehensive 200-hour program that reflects her commitment to sharing the transformative power of yoga with aspiring students and teachers.

She received her Interdisciplinary 200hr certification from the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica in 2006. Furthering her education, she completed the 500hr Advanced Apprenticeship Kunga Yoga Certification with her teacher Kristin Cooper-Gulak from the Wilmington Yoga Center in 2011. Her commitment extended beyond personal growth as she served as Kristin’s assistant for various Kunga Yoga programs, including global yoga and service retreats, 200-hour Teacher Trainings, 500hr Advanced Teacher Trainings and Rhythmic Flow Yoga with Live Drumming for many years.

A transformative chapter in Tara’s yoga journey unfolded when she volunteered with the Mizero Children of Rwanda, orphaned by the 1994 Rwandan genocide. This experience, in 2009, marked a pivotal moment as she integrated these children into the yoga community in the US and Canada. Her mission was to foster connection and acceptance across cultures, using yoga teachings as a powerful path of service. Tara continued her impactful work, extending her privilege to collaborate with women and children at the Home of Hope Orphanage in Kerala, India, and teaching yoga to at-risk youth and various communities worldwide.

Tara’s diverse practice includes influences by Kristin Cooper-Gulak (USA) and Lance Shuller in Byron Bay. In addition to her yoga certifications, she holds expertise in the Empower Pilates Mat Method by Jennifer Taylor (USA). Her broad spectrum of studies encompasses Seanne Corn, Hala Khouri and Suzanne Sterling with Off the Mat, Into the World, Ayurveda with Hilary Garivaltis, Advanced Pranayam with Yoganand Michael Carroll, Thai Yoga Massage with Jonas Westring and Deon De Wet as well as Thai Massage at Namo Chiang Mai, Thailand, Acro Yoga and Child Light Yoga.

Tara expresses deep gratitude for the inspiration and guidance she received from numerous individuals along her journey, highlighting her son, Kaimana, as one of her most significant teachers.

She finds deep reverence and solace in this practice, journeying into Self through the sweetness of breath and movement, connecting mind, body and spirit. She lovingly holds space for her student to meet her there, breath by breath.
